Plentz & Sodre Take The Crown

Fernando Plentz wasn’t supposed to win; but he did anyways. A tournament that had ‘A’ Level athletes – the Tour Stars – wth the next rung down of players – the ‘B’s- had both Will Lobato and Jonathan Silva as favorites. On paper, Silva & Lobato today are considered high-caliber athletes. They are younger and in the their primes. Plentz – a veteran – has increased his knowledge of the game and today that was the difference.

Silva came to the tournament with Lucas Lopes. Lopes – a diminutive yet insanely skilled ‘B+’ is the highest caliber of the second rung of athletes. With Silva, the team clearly came in as favorites. Lobato paired up with Tavares. Tavares – was the Tour winner the last time an A competed with a B. That time, back on Week 6 of the 2022 Season, Tavares won with Victor Martinez. Silva and Lobato each had solid partners and clearly were favorites to this Title.

Fernando Plentz being an extremely focused athlete brushed away an early loss in the group stages. Next, he mended errors with Gabriel Sodre and formed strong defensive chemistry. Add a strong desire to win, Plentz/Sodre did the unimaginable: they beat both Silva/Lopes and Lobato/Tavares on the way to the Championship victory today.

‘We never thought it would be easy; but we also never failed to believe we could do it’
Fernando Plentz (after the win)

‘Fernando had me play zone defense in the back. My reactions were good and I think that messed them up a bit. Defense is the key on the Pro Footvolley Tour.’
– Gabriel Sodre (on strategy)

The 2025 Pro Footvolley Tour is sponsored by Genius Sports.
