ENGLAND TAKES TOP SEED AFTER UNDEFEATED DAY AT 2026 NATIONS CUP

OCEAN CITY, MD — England emerged on top Saturday at the 2026 Pro Footvolley Tour Nations Cup presented by Ocean City Tourism, completing an undefeated day and claiming the No. 1 overall seed heading into Sunday’s championship finals.

Saturday marked the first day of Nations Cup competition following two days of All-Star exhibitions in Ocean City and featured six countries divided into two groups of three.

Group A featured Team USA, represented by Jonathan Silva and Dani Mendonca; England, represented by Daine Morris and Mickey Elias; and Mexico, represented by Geraldo Torres and Jerry Ruiz.

Group B featured Brazil, represented by Lucas Paes and Gustavo Teodoro; Argentina, represented by Julian Conditi and Jose Vidal; and Spain, represented by Luis Sierra and Facundo Silva.

Each nation played the other two teams in its group before moving into the ranking round. The first-place team from Group A faced the first-place team from Group B, the second-place teams met one another, and the third-place teams did the same.

Those final three matches established the overall seeds from No. 1 through No. 6 for Sunday’s championship round, with the top two countries earning the biggest reward of the day — direct passage into the semifinals.

ENGLAND TAKES CONTROL OF GROUP A

England established itself early.

Morris and Elias opened their Nations Cup campaign with a 25-18 victory over Mexico before facing Silva and Mendonca of Team USA for first place in Group A.

The Americans had looked impressive in their opening match, defeating Mexico 25-14.

That set up a battle of unbeaten teams, with England and the United States playing for the top spot in the group.

England prevailed, 25-22, completing group play at 2-0 and advancing to the No. 1 ranking match.

BRAZIL EMERGES FROM WILD GROUP B

Group B was considerably less predictable.

Argentina opened group play with a convincing 25-15 victory over Spain. Spain then responded with one of the biggest results of the day, defeating Brazil 25-23.

That put Paes and Teodoro in a difficult position entering their match against Argentina.

Brazil responded emphatically.

Paes and Teodoro defeated Argentina 25-11, leaving Brazil, Argentina and Spain each with identical 1-1 records.

When the group tiebreakers were settled, Brazil emerged in first place and advanced to face England for the No. 1 overall seed.

ENGLAND DEFEATS BRAZIL FOR NO. 1

The final matchup between the two group winners put England’s Daine Morris and Mickey Elias against Brazil’s Lucas Paes and Gustavo Teodoro.

England left little doubt.

Morris and Elias defeated Brazil 25-15, completing a perfect 3-0 Saturday and securing the No. 1 overall seed for Sunday’s finals.

Brazil finished No. 2 overall.

More importantly, both England and Brazil earned direct passage into Sunday’s semifinals, allowing them to bypass the opening round entirely.

The battle for the No. 3 seed featured Team USA against Argentina.

Jonathan Silva and Dani Mendonca responded with a strong performance, defeating Julian Conditi and Jose Vidal 25-18 to secure third place heading into Sunday.

In the final ranking match, Luis Sierra and Facundo Silva of Spain defeated Geraldo Torres and Jerry Ruiz of Mexico 25-12, giving Spain the No. 5 seed and Mexico the No. 6 seed.

Following Saturday’s competition, the six nations were officially ranked:

1. England — Daine Morris / Mickey Elias
2. Brazil — Lucas Paes / Gustavo Teodoro
3. USA — Jonathan Silva / Dani Mendonca
4. Argentina — Julian Conditi / Jose Vidal
5. Spain — Luis Sierra / Facundo Silva
6. Mexico — Geraldo Torres / Jerry Ruiz

WOMEN OPEN SATURDAY’S ACTION

Before Nations Cup group play began, the women took center stage for two professional matches.

Bia Dure and Larissa Eugenio teamed for a dramatic 26-24 victory over Nanda Quintes and Maria Ventura in the opening contest.

The partnerships changed for the second match, with Maria Ventura joining Bia Dure to defeat Larissa Eugenio and Nanda Quintes, 25-22.

The two matches continued a weekend that featured women’s competition alongside the international men’s field in Ocean City.

SUNDAY’S ROAD TO THE NATIONS CUP TITLE IS SET

After eight Nations Cup matches on Saturday, England stood alone at the top.

Morris and Elias went undefeated, winning their group before delivering their most convincing statement in the ranking round with a 25-15 victory over Brazil.

England and Brazil can now wait in the semifinals.

For Team USA, Argentina, Spain and Mexico, Sunday’s championship run will have to begin one round earlier.

The exhibition matches are over. The seeding is complete.

Now it’s win or go home at the 2026 Pro Footvolley Tour Nations Cup in Ocean City, Maryland.
