Clash of Titans Ends with Silva on Top … AGAIN!

Whereas EVERYONE seemed to think Jonathan Silva had lost his mind in his selection for a new partner – given Nick Mendonca and Moises Davalos absences – the Wunderkid proved all doubters wrong once again.  For most pundits of the Tour figured Silva would have selected Will Lobato OR at a minimum Fernando Plentz.  Nobody had thought the 5-time 2023 winner would have picked Orlando-based Joao Schimming.  Boy was everyone WRONG!  Schimming shook off his unimpressive Saturday performances with a startling display of consistency, and extreme athleticism, in winning the Stop 8 Title with Jonathan Silva.  Will Lobato & Victor Martinez (the tournament favorites) left visibly dejected and in disbelief.  Schimming – right now – is the Tour’s shiny brand new hero.  An instant force to be reckoned with!

New Partnerships with Mixed Results
With Silva’s stunning, and winning, decision to partner up with Schimming – there are other ones that also showed fans the Tour will have additional contenders sooner rather than later.  Fernando Plentz mentored Gabriel Souza.  The team had it’s moments of brilliance playing toe to toe with Silva/Schimming; but the youngster still needs more matches under his belt.  Fernando – without being served nearly the entire tournament – had a new role.  In that role, patience is important.

Lucas Paes – had a brilliant parter in Landim Mangabeira – the last four events.  The Rio de Janeiro based superstar; however, was unable to compete this time around.  Paes went with Thiago Cunha.  Cunha – a mid-level tiered athlete – showed potential; however, the gap between the former partner and current one was clearly apparent.  Lucas Paes is coming into his own as a top athlete on the Tour; but without someone at his level next to him the chances of winning a Tour title become a distant thought.  Paes/Cunha did make it to the Semi-Finals; but ended up losing to Silva/Schimming.  In the group stages, Paes/Cunha did upset veterans Leo Gomes/Thiago Santos.
