Anita Gomes Steals the Show on Her Return
Anita Gomes is a professional footballer. When she isn’t on the pitch – she’s out playing footvolley. Today, she made everyone question her priorities.
‘Yeah, I had a pretty good day … you can say that’.
Anita Gomes in action with Moises Davalos
Anita, with Moises Davalos, knocked off Fabricio Baronkowski & Kaitlyn Brunworth twice in two big upsets. Understand that Fab/Kait are the best Mixed Doubles team in the US. To further punctuate her success on the day – Gomes (a Barcelona, ES native) also won with Martin Girotto over Baronkowski/Diaz.
‘She went 3 and 1. For someone to take so much time off and play that well is pretty impressive.’
– Fabricio Baronkowski.
Kaitlyn Brunworth in action today
In the Men’s Challenge Games – with a litany of players battling a mid-week Flu outbreak – a reduced field competed.
Plentz went with former Captain Sergio Menezes versus Esteban Davalos/Felipe Moreira.
‘He wasn’t ready to be back. Not sure why he went out there.’
– Plentz in frustration after the loss
Esteban Davalos & Moreira didn’t play impressive footvolley; but had enough to edge out Plentz/Menezes is sweltering heat.
‘Boneheaded decision. I thought it was a good move considering we needed athletes. You can’t go out in 90 Degree weather after being 4 days with the Flu.’
– Sergio Menezes on the loss
